Team USA stands in 5th position in Medal Standings on Day 5: Not a remarkable start for USA in Sochi 2014

It might be another frustrating Olympic for the Americans as they stumble on the way to top of the medal standing in this month long sports event. It is almost 5 days since the beginning of Sochi Olympic 2014 and we are yet to see the best of Team USA from America. Everyone was hoping that US athletes will have a flying start in this Olympic and they will give other nations a run for their money. But so far, we haven’t seen the best of the USA. Apart from two gold medals in snowboarding, their overall achievement doesn’t stand among the top three nations in this competition. Currently they are standing at the 5th position in the medal count and quite behind from Norway as well as our neighbor Canada.

The Sochi Olympic 2014 is quite special for Team USA since it is the first time they are playing in Russia. Let’s forget about the Cold War and a tensed diplomatic relation, there are many other reasons we expect something special from our athletes in the Russian playgrounds. Nevertheless, it is not like that we expecting too much from them. In the previous Winter Olympics, Team USA had a few great successes among which 10 gold medals in 2002 Salt Lake City Games and overall 37 medals, including 9 gold medals in the 2010 Winter Olympic in Vancouver are worth a mention. But the experts at I4U are doubtful that our athletes won’t be repeating the same this time.

So far, Team USA has packed 2 gold medals in Snowboarding, 1 silver medal in Freestyle Skiing and 4 bronze medals in different events. This takes their total medal score to 7 and they are now in the 5th position in the overall medal standings. Thanks to Jamie Anderson and Sage Kotsenburg, who won gold medals for the USA in Snowboarding, we are still in a good position and we still have a chance to pick up the pace in future. But what really concerns us is that Russia is breathing right behind our neck with 7 medals in total. We can take anything but can’t accept that Russia beat us to the medal count in their homeland.

The good thing is that, there are many upcoming events in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The US athletes are well known for their supremacy in Speed Skating, Figure Skating, Alpine Skiing, Ice Hockey, Freestyle Skiing and a few other events. Till today, they have won a total of 76 medals, including 29 gold medals in speed skating, 47 medals, including 14 gold medals in Figure Skating as well 39 medals including 14 gold medals in Alpine Skiing in all the Olympics. While athletes from Snowboarding haven’t disappointed us, we are sure that we will get a few more medals in other upcoming events.  We are especially optimistic about Speed Skating, Bobsleigh, Ice Hockey and Figure Skating where American athletes have the highest chances of winning a few more medals. So we are keeping our finger crossed and hoping that Team USA will eventually rise to the top of medal charts in Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
