Tarnished victory of Canada over Team USA in Women’s Ice hockey

It seems like Team USA has been jinxed with misfortune in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia. Although this team has got a few gold medals, its top favorites have so far failed to live up to our expectations. While we were looking for a flying start from Team USA in the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, they are constantly going through hurdles in the race of medal hunt. The Women’s Ice Hockey is also not an exception to this and we were really frustrated to see them lose today with our arch enemy Canada in the Shayba Arena.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, we had a few favorite events as we had the highest chances to win gold medals in them. But so far we have got only three gold medals in the Snow Boarding events and haven’t reached to the top three nations in the medal standings. But we had great hope as our athletes have been yet to compete in other sports in the following days. Among them, we were expecting that the Women’s Ice Hockey team from the USA will certainly have a great success on the ice. But they are also stumbling in the way and today they have lost to our neighbors, Team Canada in a show down few hours ago.

It is not like that Team USA wasn’t good enough in the game at all. But they were up against the top favorite women’s Ice hockey team in the Sochi 2014 Olympics. There is a reason why this Ice Hockey team is referred as the Ice Queens. They have won eighteen straight games and Team USA surely had a tough time while going head to head with them. Even though Canada won the game this time, it was a win with a controversy and many people aren’t happy with this.

The game was full of action since Team USA and Canada kicked it off. Both the teams were excellent in the game. However, even after excellent game play from both sides, the first period was scoreless. In the second period, the Americans who made the first scoring strike in the second half. It was Hilary Knight, who passed the puck into the net from the wrist shot of Schleper. With their joint contribution, they managed to get 1-0 lead in the game, but it wasn’t for long, as Team Canada tied up with them very shortly. But the controversy began right before the closing whistle. Just one minute before the whistle, Wickenheiser from Canada made a shot which was initially tackled by U.S. goalie Jessie Vetter, but she couldn’t save the goal as she botched covering the puck. But the whistle of the referee was clearly heard when Vetter was busy with trapping the puck. The puck went into the net way after the whistle was blown. But Canada was awarded the score after video review even though the game was done before the puck went into the net. This was indeed really frustrating for Team USA. But our experts at I4U are hopeful that Team USA will get even with them when they will meet Team Canada again the medal rounds as they both have qualified for it.
