Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack has reportedly agreed to sign a five-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars, per CBS Sports.

Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack has reportedly agreed to sign a five-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

CBS Sports' Josh Katzowitz cites his colleague, Jason La Canfora, in his April 9 report

"Perhaps Browns owner Jimmy Haslam feels optimistic that center Alex Mack, despite his interest shown in him by the Jaguars, isn't going to be leaving Cleveland any time soon, but it sounds like Jacksonville is going to make life difficult for Haslam's squad.

"That's because Mack, who was slapped with the transition tag by the Browns five weeks ago, has agreed to terms on a five-year offer sheet with the Jaguars, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora.

"When the sheet is officially signed, the Browns will have five days to match the offer, but Mack is clearly interested in leaving the organization (via La Canfora)."

La Canfora's tweet states "Alex Mack has agreed to the terms of an offer sheet with Jags. Actual offer sheet not yet drawn up but will be shortly after and then submitted."

ESPN's Adam Schefter also confirms the Jaguars' offer sheet, which Mack is expected to sign by Friday, April 11.

"The Jacksonville Jaguars will sign Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl center Alex Mack to a five-year offer sheet by Friday, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

"The Browns will have five days to match Jacksonville's offer to Mack who was designated with Cleveland's $10.039 million transition tag.

"The deal will be designed to make it as difficult as possible for the Browns to match, sources told ESPN. If the Browns do not match, they will not receive any compensation for Mack, regarded by many as the NFL's premier center.

"The deal will make Mack the NFL's highest-paid center by a wide margin, according to sources. Carolina Panthers center Ryan Kalil's contract averages about $8.2 million per year.

"Sources close to Mack also say he wants to play this contract in Jacksonville, not Cleveland, which opted not to give him the long-term deal he wanted nor the franchise tag some thought he deserved."

However, sources told The Northeast Ohio Media Group's Mary Kay Cabot that Mack is aware the Browns are capable of matching the offer, resulting in him returning to Cleveland under his old contract with the team

In a separate April 8 update, Cabot interviewed Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, who said he will match any offer sheet that comes Mack's way.

"We remain optimistic that Alex Mack will be a Cleveland Brown for a long time. We want him to be. I think we've made it very clear that he's the kind of person, the kind of player we want in our organization.

"We want Alex to be a Cleveland Brown."

In spite of the fact that Cleveland still has $30 million in salary-cap space, Mack's agents, Marvin Demoff and Tim Younger, can structure the center's deal "in such a way that the Browns might balk," per Cabot, confirming Schefter's sources at ESPN.

However which way this deal goes, it should be an interesting issue to follow.
