The NBA released the 2014 Global Games schedule on April 10.

The NBA released the 2014 Global Games schedule on April 10.

The league issued a press statement which reveals a total of five teams will play in four countries -- Brazil, China, Germany and Turkey -- from Oct. 8 to 15:

"The National Basketball Association (NBA) announced today that as part of its effort to connect with its fans globally, NBA teams will play five preseason games in four countries this October as part of NBA Global Games 2014.

"As part of the schedule -- five teams -- the Brooklyn Nets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs -- will play a series of games in five cities in Brazil, China, Germany and Turkey. NBA Global Games will also include regular-season games to be announced at a later date.

"Along with the on-court action, NBA Global Games 2014 will feature a variety of off-the-court activities, including NBA Cares community programs and interactive fan events in each city. The games will also be supported by a variety of marketing and merchandising partners, and will be available to fans globally on television, digital and social media."

Commissioner Adam Silver told NBA.com the league is committed to expanding the game's horizons even farther.

"As the passion for the game continues to grow globally we are focused on finding unique and meaningful ways to connect with fans worldwide, and the NBA Global Games are part of those efforts. Basketball brings people together across cultural and geographic lines, and these games are a great opportunity for our fans to experience the excitement of the NBA first-hand."

The Nets, in particular, have been making an effort to reach out to their fans all over the globe, per ESPN New York's Mike Mazzeo.

"Ever since Mikhail Prokhorov took ownership of the Nets in May 2010, the franchise has taken seemingly every opportunity to improve its global brand.

"The Nets have played in London on three different occasions: A preseason game in 2008, two regular-season games against the Toronto Raptors in 2011 and a regular-season game against the Atlanta Hawks last January."

Brooklyn head coach Jason Kidd said in a team statement courtesy of Mazzeo it is an honor to represent the team on a global scale.

He said, "It's an honor for us to represent Brooklyn and the league in China. The borough and the Nets have connections to fans all over the world and it's a great opportunity to improve its global brand."

The Nets square off against the Kings in Shanghai and Beijing on Oct. 12 and 15, respectively.

On the other hand, USA Today notes the Spurs will face two Euroleague teams -- eight-time German titlist Alba Berlin on Oct. 8 and five-time Turkish champion Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul three days later.

The two games will be staged in the Euroleague teams' respective hometowns.

The last game on the 2014 NBA Global Games schedule pits the Heat against reigning league MVP LeBron James' former team, the Cavaliers, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Oct. 11.
