The Green Bay Packers agreed to terms with backup quarterback Matt Flynn on April 15.

The Green Bay Packers agreed to terms with backup quarterback Matt Flynn on April 15.

This was confirmed by NFL.com's Marc Sessler, citing his colleague and NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport:

"The Green Bay Packers have opted for a familiar face at the quarterback position.

"NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport repoted Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms with Matt Flynn, according to a source informed of the move.

"It's hardly a surprise after Flynn canceled a planned workout with the New York Giants. Coach Mike McCarthy wasn't about to let the 28-year-old passer go after acknowledging 'great respect and admiration' for last season's backup to Aaron Rodgers.

"Flynn brings veteran leadership and a built-in knowledge of Green Bay's offense after spending more than four of his six NFL seasons under McCarthy. He'll compete with Scott Tolzien for snaps behind Rogers and holds the edge for the No. 2 job.

"McCarthy told reporters at last month's NFL Annual Meeting that he'd be open to keeping all three passers on the 53-man roster."

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter also affirms Flynn's return to Green Bay. Financial terms and the exact length of the contract were not immediately made available.

PackersNews.com's Weston Hodkiewicz wrote on Apri 15 that Flynn being a part of the team was pushed for by many within the Packers organization.

"Flynn still was met by a quiet free-agency market. He went a month without a known workout until he was reportedly set to meet Tuesday with the Giants. However, that meeting never took place.

"An hour after word spread he wasn't visiting the Giants, reports began to surface that Flynn had re-signed with the Packers, becoming the team's seventh unrestricted free agent to do so.

"Many inside the organization have voiced their approval in bringing back Flynn, including new quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt, who replaced Ben McAdoo after he left to become the Giants' offensive coordinator."

Flynn, who previously suited up for the Packers from 2008-11, returned to Green Bay in Nov. 2013 after Seneca Wallace sustained a groin injury. Flynn got his chance on Nov. 24 and promptly led the Packers to a 26-all tie with their NFC North Rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, after trailing by 16 points.

Flynn went 2-2 in his next four starts for Green Bay, including a win over the Chicago Bears in the regular-season finale to clinch the NFC North crown.

He completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,146 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions last season, per ESPN.

Jul 29 2014 1:07pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

NAPA, Calif. — The anointed starting quarterback for the Oakland Raiders is strengthening his hold on the position this training camp instead of losing it. Matt Schaub is showing signs that last year’s disastrous season in Houston might have been an aberration as he looks in complete command as Oakland’s starter. The performance comes in stark contrast to what happened with Matt Flynn last summer. Acquired to be the starter in the off-seas ...

Vikings Must Continue Making Teddy Bridgewater Truly Earn Starting QB Gig

Jul 28 2014 11:24am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

As the superlatives trickle out of Mankato, Minnesota, temptation may arise to anoint rookie Teddy Bridgewater as the Vikings' starting quarterback—and sooner rather than later.  But despite Bridgewater's strong start at training camp, the Vikings have an established plan at quarterback, and they will be smart to stick with it throughout the next month. Any true competition can't be won or lost during the first few days of camp.  According to Jay Glazer ...

Can Derek Carr Take the Starting QB Job in Oakland in Rookie Season?

Jun 11 2014 8:50am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

The Oakland Raiders haven’t had a winning season since 2002. One big reason for that painful truth has been the team’s inability to find a franchise quarterback since the retirement of Rich Gannon. No matter how improved the defense or offensive line is in 2014, the play of the team's starting quarterback is going to dictate how the Raiders perform. If the Raiders get bad play from their starting quarterback, t ...
