The Green Bay Packers agreed to terms with backup quarterback Matt Flynn on April 15.

This was confirmed by NFL.com's Marc Sessler, citing his colleague and NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport:

"The Green Bay Packers have opted for a familiar face at the quarterback position.

"NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport repoted Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms with Matt Flynn, according to a source informed of the move.

"It's hardly a surprise after Flynn canceled a planned workout with the New York Giants. Coach Mike McCarthy wasn't about to let the 28-year-old passer go after acknowledging 'great respect and admiration' for last season's backup to Aaron Rodgers.

"Flynn brings veteran leadership and a built-in knowledge of Green Bay's offense after spending more than four of his six NFL seasons under McCarthy. He'll compete with Scott Tolzien for snaps behind Rogers and holds the edge for the No. 2 job.

"McCarthy told reporters at last month's NFL Annual Meeting that he'd be open to keeping all three passers on the 53-man roster."

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter also affirms Flynn's return to Green Bay. Financial terms and the exact length of the contract were not immediately made available.

PackersNews.com's Weston Hodkiewicz wrote on Apri 15 that Flynn being a part of the team was pushed for by many within the Packers organization.

"Flynn still was met by a quiet free-agency market. He went a month without a known workout until he was reportedly set to meet Tuesday with the Giants. However, that meeting never took place.

"An hour after word spread he wasn't visiting the Giants, reports began to surface that Flynn had re-signed with the Packers, becoming the team's seventh unrestricted free agent to do so.

"Many inside the organization have voiced their approval in bringing back Flynn, including new quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt, who replaced Ben McAdoo after he left to become the Giants' offensive coordinator."

Flynn, who previously suited up for the Packers from 2008-11, returned to Green Bay in Nov. 2013 after Seneca Wallace sustained a groin injury. Flynn got his chance on Nov. 24 and promptly led the Packers to a 26-all tie with their NFC North Rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, after trailing by 16 points.

Flynn went 2-2 in his next four starts for Green Bay, including a win over the Chicago Bears in the regular-season finale to clinch the NFC North crown.

He completed 61.4 percent of his passes for 1,146 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions last season, per ESPN.

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The rookies who have made two of the strongest impressions this preseason for the Green Bay Packers weren’t at the top of the team’s draft board. Productive performances by seventh-round pick Jeff Janis and undrafted free agent Jayrone Elliott in Thursday night’s 34-14 preseason win over Kansas City may have cemented their roster spots. Teams must trim rosters to 53 players by Saturday. Janis, a rece ...

Derek Carr Has Given Raiders Reason to Name Him Starting QB over Matt Schaub

Aug 29 2014 12:58am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Start the Carr. It doesn’t get any more obvious. After Thursday’s impressive performance against the defending Super Bowl champions, rookie Derek Carr has done everything he can do to force the Oakland Raiders to make him the starting quarterback Week 1 versus the New York Jets. Head coach Dennis Allen attempted to avoid a quarterback controversy by naming Matt Schaub his starting quarterback, but by sticking with him now, ...

Derek Carr Deserves Starting Nod over Matt Schaub After Preseason Performance

Aug 29 2014 12:50am CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

Preseason games don't count, but Derek Carr's dominant display against the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night gives the Oakland Raiders a worthy excuse to jettison Matt Schaub as their starting quarterback. In the fourth and final exhibition content, Oakland reached the end zone in all four of Carr's series. He finished his night with 143 yards and three touchdowns, completing 84 percent of his passing attempts. Just to be ...

Jimmy Garoppolo's Strong Preseason Not Enough for Patriots to Cut Ryan Mallett

Aug 28 2014 11:05pm CDT | Source: Bleacher Report

After a few strong preseason performances, New England Patriots rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had begun to earn the nickname "Jimmy Gameday." After struggling in the Patriots' 16-13 loss to the New York Giants, perhaps we should just stick with "rookie" for the time being. Garoppolo looked promising for a stretch, but it is simply too early to trust him with the keys to the car in the even ...

Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub Stuck In No-Win Situation

Aug 27 2014 12:04am CDT | Source: Rant Sports

Shockingly enough, some folks out there don’t seem to like Oakland Raiders QB Matt Schaub very much. When Schaub missed a couple of practices with elbow tendinitis, his detractors, across dozens of articles, began drawing the obvious – and completely ridiculous – comparison between Schaub and last season’s ...

Raiders’ Schaub confident he’ll start Week 1

Aug 25 2014 5:17pm CDT | Source: Sportsnet.ca

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Oakland Raiders quarterback Matt Schaub missed his second straight day of practice Monday with a sore throwing elbow that has lingered throughout the preseason. Rookie Derek Carr took first-team snaps for a second straight day with Schaub serving as a spectator. Schaub’s status for Thursday night’s exhibition finale against Seattle remains up in the air but he and coach Dennis Allen said they are confident he will be healthy enough to start the season opener Sept. 7 agai ...
