Markakis and Pierzynski Lead Braves in Smoking Out Marlins

The Atlanta Braves were not wrong when they picked Nick Markakis and A.J. Pierzynski to take over the team’s captainship.Judging by their performance on Friday when the Braves clashed with the Marlins, the two players seemed to be up to the task.

The Braves settled for the two legendary players because they are the most experienced due to the many years that they have been in the big league. They were actually selected for the sake of nurturing upcoming batters and hitters.

Their abilities were exhibited last Friday as they scored the most points for the team to beat Marlins with 6-3. Besides that, their moves were well coordinated.

Though the Braves have been experiencing major losses in the last couple of months, it’s Markakis and Pierzynski’s performance that has been keeping the team’s dream valid.

“You appreciate them the way they go about their business,” Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said. “Hopefully that carries over to that clubhouse for the [Jace] Petersons of the world.

He’s in his first year in the big leagues, but he sees the way Markakis, Pierzynski and Kelly Johnson — when he was here — go about their business.”

Markakis started smelling victory right from the fourth inning when he finished eight pitches. The first four singles were actually earned through Jose Fernandez.

Markakis was the first player to succeed in getting a hit from the Marlin’s ace. All the 11 hitters before him had failed.

The outfielder finished Friday’s contest by recording a two-run single in the seventh inning. On the other hand, Pierzynski completed Markakis hit with a single through Daniel Castro.

Though age is catching up with Pierzynski, he remains put. The Braves have actually been reserving the starting catcher position for him.

“I mean yeah, sometimes he seems mean,” Braves pitcher Julio Teheran said of Pierzynski. “He likes to talk to the other pitchers, and that’s the way he motivates, just to see if he can get something easy to hit.”
