Will Johnny Manziel Play Again?

Johnny Manziel is one of the most perplexing players in NFL history. He was one of the most talked about players in college football due to his actions on and off the field. Despite the near constant wild antics, Manziel’s talent was still worthy of a selection in the first round of the 2014 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns. This pick proved to be a complete failure when Manziel was released after only two seasons due to excessive drug and alcohol abuse. While he may have a lot of baggage, there are still a few teams currently trying to decide if they want to sign Johnny Manziel to be one of their quarterbacks during the 2017 NFL season.

If another player got kicked out of the league for substance abuse issues, then he likely would never hear from another NFL team again. This is one of the main reasons why Johnny Manziel is such an interesting figure in the sports world. He openly celebrated his wild partying and got arrested for domestic assault while drunk, but there is still a chance he can return to the NFL if he cleans up his act. Manziel has reportedly gone to rehab and done his stint at AA meetings, and is preparing a return to football.

One of the main reasons Manziel has a chance to return to the league is the overall lack of talent at the quarterback position right now. When players like Case Keenum, Trevor Siemian and Brock Osweiler are starting, then you know there are not a lot of great quarterbacks in the league right now. While he only started eight games in his short career, Johnny Manziel proved that he had the skills to be a productive NFL quarterback during his time in Cleveland. His 1,500 passing yards and seven touchdowns in six games in 2015 are good enough to at least be a backup quarterback for a long time.

The talks of a comeback have intensified in recent weeks after Manziel claimed he was ready to return to football due to the help of his new girlfriend. While nobody knows if he is completely sober, Manziel has avoided the paparazzi and cops since his long stay in rehab last year. A slightly more mature Johnny Manziel has reportedly peaked the interests of several NFL teams this offseason.

Since he so young and talented, it is hard to envision Johnny Manziel sitting on the couch at home during the upcoming 2017 NFL season. A team desperate for a solid backup quarterback is going to take a chance on him sometime this off-season. It will then be up to him to prove that he is truly dedicated to life in the NFL. If he misses one meeting or makes an appearance at a wild club in Las Vegas, then he will never see an NFL field again. Finding a team to give him another shot is going to be the easy part. It will soon be up to Johnny Manziel to prove he is willing to put in the hard work to be a successful NFL quarterback for the foreseeable future.
